Mrs. Bobo told Wallace Johnson that the violin represented was her mother's, and was done to "exact specifications". She was probably referring to the fact that the painting represents the still life objects at actual size.

About Col. James Wharton
Wharton graduated from Wofford College, and painted with Dwight Eisenhower in the South Pacific. The friendship that developed with Ike was maintained for many years as evidenced by a "White House" letter from Ike to Whartons father congratulating him on his 99th birthday.

Wharton later lived & worked in Hendersonville NC. He was a member of the Southern States Arts League.
