  • Howard Leigh in Mitla, Mexico where he held a Fellowship in Art and Archaeology

  • First took art lessons from
    Irma Howard Cook

  • First job out of college was as an assistant to Postmaster Helen Dupre Moseley and Assistant Postmaster Francis Riser. After drawing a schematic for a desk she had described to him, Moseley told him that he had talent and should take lessons from Irma Cook

  • The idea for the Spartanburg Artists' Guild was Coleman's idea.

  • served as president of the South Carolina Guild of Artists

  • served various capacities within the Spartanburg Artists' Guild

  • He was well known in art circles locally and in the Southeast
