This piece,
also known as The Girl with the Jugs and Girl with Amphora,
was originally in the collection of the old Kennedy Library in Spartanburg.
It was accessioned into the Spartanburg Art Club’s Collection in
1953 and accessioned to The Arts Council of Spartanburg in 1977. In 1994,
this piece and others, were given to The Spartanburg County Art Association
now known as The Spartanburg County Museum of Art.
Correspondence
from King Couper in 1984, indicates that the girl in the painting (Mary
Lovling) is the daughter of Mrs. Nannie Lovling, who for many years was
the nurse for the children of Mr. John A. Law, president of Saxon Mills
and Central National Bank in Spartanburg.
