Alia Lawson Pre-College Department of Music at Converse
College in Spartanburg, S.C., aspiring music students in

Annual Spartanburg County Youth
Concerts
Each
Spring, the Music Foundation presents youth concerts for
Spartanburg County Public School students at Spartanburg
Memorial Auditorium.
These
performances by The Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra not
only provide exceptional music, but often serve as an introduction
to orchestral music and the concert experience for many
students. This year's performance will be February 27.
In-School Performances
In
keeping with our mission to educate, entertain and enrich
the Spartanburg community through music, the Music Foundation
presents performances in both the public and private schools
in Spartanburg County as a part of the MUSE Machine Arts-In-Education
project through The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg.
Featuring ensembles from The Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra
as well as guest artist residencies, these performances
reach numerous students ranging in grades 1-12 annually.
Past performances have included Mark O'Connor, Rhythm &
Brass and Hesperus.
The Healing Arts Program
The
Healing Arts program is a community partnership joining
the arts in Spartanburg County and the healthcare community.
Its mission is to promote and foster the use of the arts
in the healing process of patients and their families
and to sustain the well-being of the care givers working
with those patients.
The
Music Foundation has been an active participant in this
program since its inception in 1997. With the hope of
easing patients' suffering from injury or illness, performers
ranging from classical to jazz genres are scheduled periodically
in appropriate areas local healthcare facilities, including
Mary Black Hospital, Spartanburg Regional Hospital, Mountain
View Nursing Home, St. Luke's Free Clinic, Spartanburg
County Health Department, and Magnolia Manor.

Music
is a moral law.
It gives soul to the universe,
Wings to the mind.
Flight to the imagination,
A charm to sadness,
Gaity and life to everything!
It is the essence of order
And lends to all that is good and just and beautiful.
