THE PALMETTO BUILDING
(Photoprint, c. 1910.)

After a two story addition was made to the Palmetto Building on East Main Street, Augustus Wardlaw Smith moved his store from Abbeville to Spartanburg.

Smith was more of a silent partner in the new venture. The co-owner, Frank McGee, was the person who actually established the company and made it into Spartanburg's premier department store; (Card courtesy of Bill Littlejohn)
