EAST MAIN STREET IN THE 1950's
(Colorpicture Publishers, Boston.)
This view, looking east from Church Street, shows the changes that occurred by the 1950s. The Palmetto Building is on the extreme left. The Belk-Hudson Company occupies the space of Aug. W. Smith's first location. The W & W Cafeteria, operated by W.W. Bailey, occupies the former location of the Elite Restaurant. The site is currently a vacant lot.
