The Building with the clock tower is the Opera House, designed by Godfrey Norman and built in 1880. Spartanburg's city hall occupied the first floor. On the second floor there was an auditorium. The building was torn down about 1907 and the property sold to the Masons, who build the present Masonic Temple on it in 1928.
