When
this building was built, the first floor was used for shops, while
the upper floors housed Dr. Benjamin B. Steedly's Private Hospital
and later the Commercial Hotel.
ln
1912, the bottom floor was Nicholas Trakas' fruit store.
Today the upper floors remain largely unchanged. During the 1940's,
Milton's Men's Shop occupied 171 and the Standard Cloak
Company was in 173.
Some
years later the Kiddie Korner, a clothing store for children,
occupied 173. During the 1990's this was the location of a specialty
shop, A Taste of the Carolinas.
